Understanding the Difference Between Microlocs and Sisterlocks

Within a week ago I released a new service to my service menu called the Microlocs. I have received so many inboxes and messages about this service, so I decided to provide a blog about the details. One of the most common questions was what’s the difference between microlocs and sisterlocks. I thought that was a pretty good question to share the details about. So, in this blog i want to give you a clear understanding on the difference between microlocs and sisterlocks. 

They are very different but similar in several ways. If you are considering getting either service, this blog may help you make a better decision. 

Microlocs

Microlocs are traditional locs that are in between the size of a pencil and your pinky finger. The price for this service is not as expensive as sisterlocks. It can be priced between $150-$400 depending on where you are located. According to the size and length of the hair when starting this service it can take about 2-4 hours to install as a coil technique. The locking process is the same as traditional locs.  The installation can be started with a twist, braid, or coil. Most people get this service if they want to have the flexibility and fullness when styling their locs. This style will help enhance details to any style that is sculpted with these locs. According to how fast your hair grows you will need to maintenance your locs every 4-8 weeks to keep your roots tightened. 

Sisterlocks

Sisterlocks was created and developed by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell in 1993. This service is an investment and the technique is not the same as microlocs. Sisterlocks are more expensive. This service must be serviced by a Certified Sisterlock Consultant. Most of the consultants will provide consultations before your service and or list lots of common questions on their websites. Sisterlocks are more like a lifestyle and have a whole community that supports it. The cost for installation can cost anywhere from $400-$1000. The maintenance service can cost between $100-200. This service has to be maintenance every 6 weeks. The tools that are used to complete this service is different from any other loc tool. 

They both are commitments and require maintenance to remain healthy. They both are small locs but are separated by their sizes. In order for locs to remain consistent as they grow and develop is to stay on top of maintenance services. There is a common myth that small locs will cause your locs to break. This is definitely a myth. Small locs is not what causes breakage. Improper loc maintenance, stress, over processed color, and etc can cause locs to break. They both have a very neat grid when parting and starting the locs. 

Both of these services are beautiful, versatile and a great investment. However, I am only offering one of them, microlocs.
