This is a common myth told about hair color. It's not always the hair color that causes breakage. Breakage mainly comes from improper application while applying hair color. There are a few things that can cause breakage when hair coloring that I would like to show below: 

The condition of the hair before the color application

If the hair is dry or damaged before applying the hair color there is a huge possibility the hair will become more damaged after applying color. It's best to treat the hair back to its normal state before applying any color.

Overprocessing the hair color

If you already have haircolor and you are retouching the roots with color it's important not to overlap hair color or it can cause breakage and shedding. To avoid this from happening be sure you are not getting a retouch sooner than you should. Allow the new hairs to grow out at least an inch away from the scalp before retouching your color.

Avoiding aftercare

You must take care of your hair color after the application. When you get your hair colored it removes some moisture from the hair. This is why you must be intentional with shampooing and conditioning your hair with color treated products. These products are purposely designed to help restore the moisture and hair bonds after chemical services. Also be sure you are applying moisturizers and oils to the hair to seal in moisture to the hair color for daily styling.
